Read To Learn

July 4, 2006
"Never argue with a person who reads, it is most likely that he can also think."

When I read that passage, I can't help but agree with whoever said it. I believe
that a person need not be a graduate of a top university to be intelligent. He
doesn't need to
be a jetsetter to know the beautiful places in the world. He can be a total
jologs but still speak fluent english. He can be poor but speak and read foreign
languages. He can be anything he wants to be. If he loves to read, that is.

I think that reading is one hobby that we should all enjoy. It's just a pity
that our public libraries here lack the books that a lot of people might enjoy.
Unlike in the first world country where the library goers can request for a
book, our libraries here contains outdated ones. One of my dreams is to have a
store like Booksale where people can buy great books at a lesser price. I hope
to realize that dream. But if i get really lucky, I'll be able to build a
library full to the rafters of books.

I am and will always be an advocate of reading. It doesn't matter what material
a person likes to read, as long as it contributes to his well being, I am for
that. When I was still a kid, I always read comics. I then progressed to reading
stories in my and my sister's text books. Then I was introduced to pocketbooks.
From tagalog pocketbooks to Nancy Drew, it doesn't matter. As long as the story
interests me, I will read it. I gradually shifted to thicker books. I read
romance novels if i want to relax. Suspense if I want an exciting read. I
also read romance when I want to cry. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas is one of my
favorites. You should give it a try.

What i really want to say is this: We should all read. It doesn't only feed our mind, but also our heart.
